We’ve been looking for freedom

GeoWerkstatt-guided tour through the East of Leipzig

Cities have always been places of desire and projection, surfaces for dreams and utopias. Every generation, every management epoch creates or transforms urban spaces. The international students of the Land Management and Land Tenure course at the TU Munich wanted to understand this in Leipzig.

Together with Jörg and Frank from GeoWerkstatt Leipzig e.V. they crossed the East, of this city in motion. The thematic focus was on the transformation of industrial and proletarian districts into living quarters for students and migrants. The current construction boom and the decline in the population were important points of reference in order to trace various phases of depreciation and upgrading on the spot. At the end of the long day we visited a long abandoned but intensively used locomotive shed.

Jörg and Frank hope that everyone liked it as much as they did. Maybe next year?
